Cancer Misdiagnosis

What does Cancer Misdiagnosis mean?

Early detection of cancer is critical to the survival of a patient, especially if they hope to make a full recovery. Cancer misdiagnosis is often done by careless medical professionals who offer inaccurate diagnoses, robbing patients of days, weeks or even months and years, irreparably damaging their health. Consider, however, not every misdiagnosis is medical malpractice. To win a malpractice case the patient must be able to prove the doctor missed symptoms or the doctor ignored, discounted or misinterpreted evidence that another doctor, in a similar situation, would not have missed.

So what could be considered misdiagnosis? There are several examples such as a failure to order tests, despite a patient's report of symptoms or other indicators; misinterpretation of test results; a failure to read results altogether; or an improper treatment of cancer (e.g. the doctor did not recommend the patient get the appropriate chemotherapy, radiation or surgery). Consider also, to win a medical malpractice case you may have to find another medical expert willing to testify in your case. Due to the complexity of a misdiagnosis case you will want to talk to a medical malpractice lawyer.
